‹Giving and Receiving› is a sculpture installation that explores the theme of love, where my starting point is the book “The Forces of Love" by Brigitte Champetier de Ribes. I want to focus on the idea that everything we love will leave us some-
day, and how that can make it more precious. In Spain, the clavel (carnation) is not only the national f lower of the country but a cultural emblem of love and tradition. The sculptural vase in ‹Giving and Receiving›, filled with carnations,
suggests that harmony, love, and life circulate through us, shaping our relationships and our being in the world. The vase becomes a vessel of energy, ref lecting the idea that love moves through bodies, objects, generations, and memories. This connects with Rupert Sheldrake’s concept of morphogenetic fields, which proposes that all systems, from cells to societies, are inf luenced by collective memory and repeated patterns through “morphic resonance.”
The act of giving and receiving f lowers is a ritual of balance, an offering and an acceptance. It is a gesture that acknowledges beauty and impermanence, connection and separation. It is a moment of presence: I offer something fragile because I honor our shared humanity, knowing that it will fade, but the gesture will remain. In the end, the work is a meditation on the movement of love through life—its fragility, its force, its resonance, and its capacity to create.

〈Giving and Receiving〉 은 사랑이라는 주제를 탐구하는 조형 작품으로, 브리짓 샴페티 드 리브(Brigette Champetier de Ribes)의 저서 『사랑의 힘(The Forces of Love)』으로부터 영감을 얻었다. 우리가 사랑하는 모든 것들이 언젠가는 우리 곁을 떠난다는 사실과 오히려 그렇기 때문에 사랑이 더욱 값지다는 점에 초점을 둔다. 스페인에서 카네이션은 국화일 뿐만 아니라, 사랑과 전통의 문화적 상징이기도 하다. 카네이션으로 채운 〈Giving and Receiving〉 꽃병 조형물은 조화와 사랑 그리고 삶이 지속적으로 순환하며 세상 속 우리의 존재와 관계를 규정하고 있음을 암시한다. 에너지를 담은 몸체인 꽃병은 몸과 사물, 세대 그리고 기억을 가로질러 흐르고 있는 사랑을 상징한다. 이는 세포에서부터 사회에 이르기까지 모든 체계가 “형태 공명(morphic resonance)”에 의하여 집단 기억과 반복적인 패턴에 의한영향을 받는다는 루퍼트 셸드레이크(Rupert Sheldrake)의 형태형성장(morphogenetic fields) 개념과 이어져 있다.
꽃을 주고받는 행위는 제안과 수용이 균형을 이루는 의식이다. 이는 아름다움과 덧없음, 연결과 분리를 마주하는 제스처이자, 존재의 순간이기도 하다. 끝내 사라질 연약한 이것을 건네며 나는 우리가 공유한 인간다움을 기린다. 이 제스처만은 남을 것이기 때문이다. 결국 이 작업은 삶을 관통하는 사랑의 움직임—그 연약함, 힘, 공명, 그리고 창조력—에 대한 명상이다.
