‹Voice of Atypical› explores the uncertainty of microscopic presence through image and sound. The video juxtaposes directly filmed footage with material sourced from scientific journals. Images on the scale of cells or molecules captured by an electron microscope, surfaces of mechanical devices, and noises at frequencies inaudible to the human ear both reveal and confine the invisible within the narrow boundaries of human understanding.
The text, “I am an atypical being,” marks the moment when an image from the electron microscope acquires a voice and becomes a narrator. In contrast to the typical image perceived by an audience, the narrator’s declaration of atypicality renders the perception ambiguous, further amplifying the uncertainty of microscopic presence.
Through juxtaposition and continuity, the footage generates a temporal space where images of similar qualities accumulate and overlap, collectively evoking a lingering sense of equivocality and indeterminacy. The work asks whether it is meaningful to depend on images and the visible spectrum—despite our awareness of their limitations—or whether we have no choice but to rely on vision to acquire our understanding.

〈비정형의 목소리〉는 이미지와 사운드를 통해 미시적 존재의 불확정성을 탐구하는 작업이다. 영상은 직접 촬영한 푸티지와 과학 저널 등에서 가져온 파운드 푸티지의 병치로 구성된다. 전자현미경으로 포착된 세포와 분자 단위의 이미지, 기계장치 표면, 그리고 신체로는 들을 수 없는 특정 주파수의 노이즈 사운드는, 비가시적이었던 존재를 드러내면서도 동시에 이해 가능한 틀 안으로 제한하는 가시화 전략의 양가성을 보여준다.
영상 속 화자가 선언하는 “저는 비정형적 존재입니다” 라는 텍스트는, 전자현미경 이미지 속 미시적 존재를 화자로 삼아 이미지가 목소리를 갖는 순간을 만들어낸다. 관객이 보는 이미지는 명확하지만, 반면에 화자의 선언은 그 대비를 만들어 미시적 존재의 불확정성을 경험하게 한다.
또한 푸티지의 병치와 연속적 흐름은, 비슷한 성질의 이미지들이 반복적으로 쌓이는 시간을 형성하며, 이미지와 사운드가 지닌 양가성과 불확정성을 감각하도록 한다. 이를 통해 작업은 이미지와 가시 영역의 한계를 알면서도 여전히 그것에기대는 것이 유효한지, 그럼에도 우리는 가시성에 의지할 수밖에 없는가라는 질문을 던진다.

ly, Jung’s focus has been on the discrimination and enforcement imposed on individuals during their incorporation into groups, and on the choices they are compelled to make to challenge conventional values and customs.
By interweaving images captured from reality with those derived from research, Jung explores the meanings of images within their respective contexts.

정희재는 사회 속 개인과 집단이 맞닿는 자리에서 필연적으로 마주하게 되는 경험과 사건, 그리고 그 속에서 드러나는 질서에 관심을 둔다. 최근에는 집단에 속하는 과정에서 사람들에게 요구되는 배제와 강요, 그리고 그 과정에서 포기하고 수용하게 되는 선택들을 주시하며, 이를 통해 기존 가치와 관습에 의문을 던진다. 카메라로 포착한 현실의 이미지와 리서치를 통해 발견한 이미지들을 뒤섞어, 이미지와 그 맥락 속 의미를 탐색하며 작업을 전개한다.
