‹Slipping beneath› slides from poetry to nightmare, forming a fantastical dream sequence that never truely reveals itself. This liquid-like state is created using different ways of recording visual material and sound, combining drone footage
shot in Northern Finland, animation, stop motion with miniatures, photographs and other methods and compositions of images, as well as sounds from nature, ancient poetry recitals, spaceship sounds and synthesizers. It seeks to create a
constantly morphing and moving dream state, where nothing feels quite real or concrete, yet there is a weight to the images and sounds.
The beginning of this work can be traced back to a comic-book project started in 2022 but never finished, or it can be taken even further back, to 2014 when the artist was creating a fantasy world that never really took concrete shape, staying
in a liminal state where everything was always changing. This change happened as the artist learned more about the world, constantly adjusting his worldview and abandoning the previous drafts of this dream-world where he could disappear
into. Massive storylines of many characters formed, with vast landscapes and kingdoms and cities, each with their own histories and politics and spiritual backgrounds. But this work never really found a way to any single project, rather it fragmented and supported all the other projects and the entire artistic practise that was at that time only in an embryonic state.
This video work can be seen as existing in that same continuum of an ever-evolving fantasy world, but it also works as a stand-alone piece, exploring the state in between dream and reality. The themes of the video are all part of a story
that is not explained, rather pushed into an abstraction of a story. The visual and auditory language used seek to bring to life a hidden thing, a mood and a poetic emptiness where the wordless experience can emerge.

〈Slipping beneath〉는 시(詩)에서 악몽으로 미끄러지듯 전환하며, 끝끝내 실체를 드러내지 않는 환상적인 꿈의 시퀀스를 만든다. 액체와 같은 상태는 다양한 시각적 재료와 사운드의 기록으로 구성된다. 북핀란드에서 촬영한 드론 푸티지, 미니어처를 활용한 스톱모션, 사진과 같이 여러 이미지 구성과 방식이 결합되고, 여기에 자연의 소리, 고대 시 낭독, 우주선의 음향, 신시사이저 사운드 등이 더해졌다. 작품은 끊임없이 형태를 바꾸며 동적인 꿈의 상태—무엇도 현실적이거나 뚜렷하지 않지만 이미지와 사운드의 묵직함만은여실한—를 만들어낸다.
이 작품은 2022년도에 착수하였으나 완성하지 못한 코믹북 프로젝트로부터 시작하였다. 아니, 어쩌면 훨씬 더 전으로 거슬러 올라가, 구체적인 형태를 갖추지 못한 채 모든 것이 변화 중이었던 환상의 세계를 그가 한창 머릿속에 그리던 시기인 2014년쯤 시작되었다고 해도 좋을 것이다. 이 변화는 그가 스스로 세상에 대해 배워가면서 초안으로 구상하였던 꿈꾸던 이상 세계를 버리고 자신의 세계관을 지속적으로 수정하는 과정 속에서 이뤄졌다. 각각 고유의 역사와 정치적 및 정신적 배경을 가진 광활한 대지의 왕국과 도시 속 수많은 캐릭터들의 방대한 서사가 있던 초안은 그 어떠한 프로젝트로도 완결되지 못하였다. 이 작업은 해체된 후에야 오히려 당시 태동기에 있던 다른 작업들을 비롯하여 전반적인 예술적 실천을 지탱하는 밑거름이 되었다.
〈Slipping beneath〉은 끊임없이 진화하는 환상의 세계와 연속선상에 있는 동시에 독자적인 작품으로서 꿈과 현실 사이의 상태를 탐구한다. 비디오 속 주제들은 단일한 이야기로 설명되는 대신, 이야기의 추상화로 밀려난다. 시청각적 언어는, 형언할 수 없는 경험이 촉발하는 감춰진 감정과 시적인 공허를 드러내고자 한다.

Sakari Kyyrönen’s artistic practise focuses on exploring the in-between states of being, of living, of creating and seeing, while balancing the deeply personal and the purely objective. He aims to capture contrasts and paradoxes, trying to reveal mysteries within him and the surrounding world. His process seeks to intuitively combine the past and the future, memory and dream, reality and fantasy, the abstract and the concrete, softness and brutality.
Underlying his work is a feeling that he has had since he was a child, that there is something deeply hidden and wrong with the world. His art is a path to explore this insisible place.

사카리 키뢰넨의 예술적 실천은 주관적인 동시에 순수하게 객관적인 태도로 존재와 삶,창조하기와 관찰하기 사이의 중간적인 상태를 탐구한다. 대조와 역설의 포착은 자신과 자신을 둘러싼 세계의 비밀을 드러내는 방식이다. 그의 작업은 과거와 미래, 기억과 꿈, 현실과 환상, 추상과 구체, 섬세함과 야만성을 직관적으로 결합하려는 시도로 구성된다.
그의 작품 저변에는 어린 시절부터 품어 온, 이 세계에는 잘못된 무언가 깊이 숨겨져 있다 라는 감각이 자리한다. 그에게 예술은 보이지 않는 장소를 탐색하는 여정이다.
